The Burning Mirror (焦魔鏡, Aseri Makyou, Focus Magic Mirror) is a powerful weapon that was developed by the dwarves of Toran[1]. The Burning Mirror was said to be capable of burning down a forest in an instant[2] and was considered a terrible weapon[3].

Kwanda Rosman, under the influence of a Conqueror Rune, commissioned Kage to steal the blueprint for the Burning Mirror from the dwarves[4] and began building the Burning Mirror[5]. Kwanda Rosman used the Burning Mirror to destroy Lukie Ende Towayo and nearly used it to annihilate the Toran Liberation Army following their victory at the Battle at Pannu Yakuta Castle[6], but he was prevented in doing so by the Chief of the Dwarves' Firewind Cannon, which shattered the Burning Mirror, placed on the roof of Pannu Yakuta Castle, into pieces[7].

Trivia

  • The Burning Mirror is likely based on Archimedes' Burning Mirror, which allegedly lit a fleet of Roman vessels on fire during the Battle of Syracuse in the Second Punic Wars. The details of this burning mirror (such as whether it was one gigantic mirror or several mirrors placed in a parabolic array) have been lost to time and the truth of the legend remains contested, but similar technology as the burning mirror is used today in solar furnaces.
