Teresa Wisemail (テレーズ・ワイズメル, Terēzu Waizumeru) is a character in Suikoden II who appears in Genso Suikogaiden Volume 1. She is a popular mayor from Greenhill.

Biography

Suikoden II

I promise... I will return to Greenhill... I will once again walk these streets.... I will once again breathe this air... And my lips will once again call this town's name! Wait for me... I will return!

—  Teresa Wisemail

Teresa Wisemail is the daughter of Alec Wisemail, the mayor of Greenhill. As Alec became gravely ill, Teresa took over his duties, gaining a large amount of popularity and becoming an icon for the town[1]. Following her father's death, the townspeople created the office of acting mayor for Teresa[2]. Teresa also took diplomatic actions on behalf of the principality, participating in the Hilltop Conference in Muse.

During the Dunan Unification War, the Highland Kingdom was able to capture Greenhill without much difficulty; however, Teresa was able to get away and hid in the forests behind Greenhill.

The Highland army placed a bounty on Teresa's head. The New State Army responded by attempting to rescue Teresa. However, Teresa refused to go along with them and intended to turn herself in to Highland in hopes that it would stop the occupation[3]. When she came to hand herself in, a large group of citizens urged her to escape, so that she could one day liberate Greenhill. Convinced by the show of support by her people, Teresa left Greenhill with the New State Army, but swore that she would return.

As a member of the New State Army, Teresa participated in battle and accompanied Riou to Muse in an unsuccessful attempt to negotiate a peace treaty.

Teresa joined the battle to liberate Greenhill, showing a small party of New State Army soldiers how to sneak into the town by using some of the town's many secret passages[4].

Although Greenhill had been liberated, Teresa remained with the New State Army throughout the war, participating in the liberation of the Matilda Knighdom and the assault on L'Renouille.

Following the war, Teresa became mayor of Greenhill anbd made peace with the nearby Karaya Clan[5] before later becoming the President of the newly formed Dunan Republic.

Personality and Traits

Teresa enjoyed great popularity, especially in Greenhill. As the mayor's daughter, Teresa had been watched closely by the town, even as a child[6]. Many citizens had high opinions of her[7][8] and were sympathetic to her despite the principality's troubles[9].

Due to her life in the spotlight, she was also gossiped about by some citizens, particularly in regards to her relationship with Shin[10]. Despite these romantic rumors, Teresa actually was somewhat clueless in regards to men[11]. Richmond thought that it was obvious that Teresa and Shin were in love with one another, but both were too stubborn to act on it[12].

Teresa was widely devoted to the people of Greenhill. When Muse and Greenhill soldiers began to kill one another for food, Teresa was highly shaken by this and felt powerless to stop such violence[13]. She was prepared to hand herself over to Highland in order to save her people trouble, even knowing that such an act would likely mean her death[14]. Even after joining the New State Army, Teresa realized that she felt more at home in Greenhill than anywhere else[15].
