Egbert Aethelbald (エグバート・エセルバルド, Egubāto Eserubarudo) is a supporting character in Suikoden V. Egbert is the slightly unhinged successor of the noble House of Aethelbald, or so he claims.

Biography

Damned Godwins! My family's been storing up its rage for a hundred years! Worthless, filthy devils!

—  Egbert Aethelbald

Egbert is a mysterious man who was discovered living the sewers underneath Stormfist. He proclaimed himself to be a member of the House of Aethelbald, a Falenan noble house that fell in prominence to the Godwin Faction over a century ago, and had a genealogy to prove it. His genealogy was never proven, but if true, he would be a distant relative of the Barows Faction due to Luserina and Euram's great-grandmother.

Normally, Egbert carried himself with a dignity befitting a member of a noble house but whenever the subject of the Godwins would come up, he would quickly explode in rage, screaming at length about the Godwins and their various injustices, both real and imagined. He would join the Imperial City Recapture Army out of resentment at what the Godwins did to his house, entertaining members of the army in his ancestral game of checkers.

Following the Sun Rune War, he would return to his home in the Stormfist sewers, for eccentricity's sake, if nothing else.
