At one point in the past, Crowley and Mazus fought, using so much magical power that they leveled three mountains and made it rain for an entire week.

Bursting with self confidence, Mazus readily proclaimed himself a great and powerful sorcerer and certainly held the ability to back up his words. He was also considered annoying and inconsiderate of his surroundings.

Before he moved to the Tinto Mines, Mazus was spotted in Greenhill Forest, he attempted to create a sea of fire to test the results of his training. The resulting inferno would have been catastrophic, but thankfully the spell failed.

Mazus would be discovered by the New State Army in the Tinto Mines during the Dunan Unification War. There, Mazus was "letting his thoughts flow" which he declared to be the true path to magic. He was convinced to go out into the world by the hero, joining the New State Army as an excuse to test out his magical abilities.

He used his magical arts to the aid of the army, although it was questioned how much Mazus could truly gleam from such battles at his skill level.
