The Great Contract (大盟約, Dai Meiyaku) was a treaty signed many years before the events of Suikoden.
Overview
In ancient times, the Great Contract was established between the four races of the Great Forest; humans, dwarves, kobolds and elves. It was intended to define the lands of each of the four races, each agreeing to the inviolability of the agreement.
The Forest of Illusion was created by the Six Wise Men of the Forest following the agreement. The contract was inherited by the Scarlet Moon Empire and is the reason why the government did not reveal the existence of the Great Forest to other regions of the Empire.
Once Lukie Ende Towayo was destroyed during the Gate Rune War, the magic sealing off the Great Forest vanished, effectively dissolving the Great Contract.
