Jansen (ヤンセン, Yansen) is a supporting character in Genso Suikoden Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki. He is sea-loving jongleur, forever crafting odes to the great ocean.

History

No matter how much I cast the melody of my soul, it will never be enough to catch the splendor of the sea!

—  Jansen

Jansen was a thalassophilic jongleur residing in Port Town Nabarre. Possessed with a great love of the sea, crafting odes to it in an effort to express his feelings towards it was seemingly his sole purpose for living.

Perhaps it would have been, if not the hero and Regius traveling to HIY 100 to ensure the preservation of a ship at the Nabarre East Coast. Returning to the present, Jansen would be unchanged, save for an additional duty, the inheritor of the ship.

Placing himself and his ship at the Company's disposal as his teachings had told him, Jansen easily sided with the Company over the Yggdrasilian Throne. After all, one had ensured ocean travel would exist for him to pursue in the present, while the other had tried to suppress it completely.

As a jongleur, Jansen always focused on composing odes to the sea. Some found this annoying, such as Moudi and Zaveed but other such as Jagwan and Luseri enjoyed his playing. Luseri would even agree to learn how to play music from Jansen, who likened the lyre and bow as stringed instruments.

Following the war, he would first captain a migrant ship, then a trading ship, spending his life on the sea until the very end.
