Hortensius (ホルテンシウス, Horutenshiusu) is a supporting character in Genso Suikoden Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki. He is a formerly great chef suffering from carnophobia.
Biography
Hortensius was a famous chef who worked in the Holy City of Thaksis, some 200 years in the past. He served as a head chef at a high-end restaurant in the city, catering to the nobility. He was known as the "Emperor of Meat Dishes".
During the war with the Terrus Firma 200 years ago, he would go the front lines, in order to support the soldiers fighting with his dishes. However, upon seeing the piled up corpses and the writhing masses of flesh that were the Terrus Firma, he would be traumatized and unable to work with fresh meat any longer.
Moving to Hioni Village, he would live in obscurity until met by the time-travelling 108 Stars. They were able to help Hortensius overcome his carnophobia by gathering meat for him to freeze in the snowy mountains, allowing him to work on solid meat and slowly working his way back to fresh meat. Recovered, he would endeavor to return to Thaksis and reopen his restaurant, but not before passing on his signature dish, King Steak to the future.
Following the war, he would take Tarascio Lucio on as his student while continuing to run his restaurant, overwhelming his customers with his excellent meat dishes.
