Ugaki Hidenari (宇垣秀成) is a Japanese voice actor currently affiliated with the talent agency 81 Produce. Most known for his roles as Goro Majima in the Yakuza/Like A Dragon series, he is the voice of Varkas in Suikoden STAR LEAP.
History
Ugaki trained at the Toho Gakuen College of Drama and Music, and in 1984 entered the Literature Theatre Research Institute (Bungakuza Engeki Kenkyūjo), marking the beginning of his acting career. Although he initially appeared in television dramas and stage productions, his career trajectory gradually shifted toward voice work, encompassing anime, video games, dubbing, narration, and other forms of voice-over media.
Known for a deep, masculine voice, Ugaki often portrays mature or rugged characters. Interestingly, despite being a native Tokyo speaker, he intentionally uses stylized dialects for certain roles, most famously as Goro Majima in the Yakuza series where the production team encouraged him to adopt a unique "Majima dialect" rather than natural Kansai speech.
Off the mic, his hobbies include skiing and swimming.
