Etymology
Dagon was a major Semitic god, reportedly of fish and/or fishing, worshipped by the early Amorites and by the inhabitants of the cities of Ebla and Ugarit. It's also the name of a novel by H. P. Lovecraft and the name of a fictional god, Father Dagon, who is worshipped by the Deep Ones, a race of fish-like beings that live underwater.
