Mueller is the second-in-command of Wilhelm’s unit of the Lindwurm Mercenary Brigade. Mueller is known for his rather strict treatment of the men within the unit and often hit lazy troops with his staff. However, he was not necessarily cruel or overly violent and so held the respect and obedience of his troops. Mueller knew Wilhelm before they joined the Lindwurm Mercenary Brigade, doing odd jobs together and walking the thin line between "mercenaries" and "bandits" before finding his current position.

He was first encountered by the Prince at Stormfist during the Sacred Games as he was chastising his subordinate, Richard. In the past, Mueller saved Richard from his abusive father; in gratitude, Richard loyally follows him everywhere. Mueller had jokingly (deadpan, naturally) suggested that Richard go join the Sacred Games. Richard did, but was not even able to compete, as he was drugged before his opening match. An enraged Mueller (after his worry had subsided) yelled at him, and told him to go find a place with a waterfall and some rocks to train.

Mueller, along with Wilhelm, met the Prince again at Rainwall at the beginning of the Sun Rune War. During the battle against Dilber Novum, Mueller and Wilhelm withdrew from the battle with Mueller citing a “breach of contract” upon the discovery of the Armes Southern Mountain Corps in the southern forests. Some time later, Mueller and Wilhelm met the Prince at Raftfleet, wherein upon hearing how great a general he was, decided to ally themselves with the Imperial City Recapture Army.

Through the Prince, Richard was able to reunite with Mueller, although Mueller later regretted that, saying that it drove "him up the wall". Despite this, it is pretty obvious that Mueller actually cares for Richard and the Prince's cause a great deal. As Richard noted, if Mueller had not really wanted to fight alongside the Prince, he would not have been there, no matter what excuses he made to the contrary.
