The '''Trial of Disinheritance''' (廃嫡裁判, ''Haichaku Saiban'') was an event that took place prior to the first [[Suikoden]] game. It helped spark the [[War of Succession]] crisis.

The Trial of Disinheritance was a legal proceeding to challenge the legitimacy of the newly crowned Emperor [[Barbarossa Rugner|Barbarossa]] and abolish his right to the throne. The [[Geil Rugner]] faction, aided by judiciary [[Assam]] in the courts, initiated this trial in the absence of Barbarossa and his supporters.

With a stacked court, the ruling to depose Barbarossa was passed in only 30 minutes. The reaction by Barbarossa to this attempted coup would spark a civil war, the [[War of Succession]].
