Syggni Albreck (シグニィ・アルブレク, Shigunyi Arubureku) is a background character in Genso Suikoden Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki. She is the mother of the game's hero and has passed down her Blue Flash Style swordsmanship to him.

History

To stand on the battlefield with a sword means you are prepared to kill or be killed. To regret killing or to lament being killed is a mistaken way of thinking.

—  Syggni Albreck

Syggni Albreck was a Therbe Village swordswoman of some renown as well as the inheritor of the Blue Flash Style and the Memento Dagger through the lineage of Thorwad Albreck, stretching all the back to Syldis some 200 years prior.

As a wandering swordswoman, she met and became firm rivals and friends with the scalehorde Tserendrum. At some point she would have a child. The father would die when her son was a baby. Raising him alone, Syggni began training him in the Blue Flash Style at the age of five when he voiced his wish to be able to help fight the centennial monsters.

Syggni was said to have had an extremely calming and reassuring presence. Many in Therbe Village admired both her beauty and her skill with the sword. A young Myra looked up to her especially. Tserendrum greatly admired her, claiming her sword was like the wind that blows across the sky and her heart like the clear water. Chief Hagar also held Syggni in great esteem.

As a tutor, she was tough. Syggni never let up against her son in training and he frequently came home with a lot of cuts and bruises. She was also able to use healing techniques, like a herbalist.

In HIY 297, Syggni would travel to Martylion after hearing word of a rebellion fomenting there and suspecting it to be a plot of the Mountain Roots. Syggni's suspicions would be confirmed, and she would fight off countless Grubs only to be stabbed and killed by Rochelle Kollek once she was too exhausted to fight further.

Syggni's body was never found. Hearing of the news, Tserendrum would travel to the Martylion Wastes where Syggni fell. She would eventually build a small stone marker to commemorate her friend. Her efforts delayed the formation of what would become the Vermilion Axe for three years.

News of her death shook the people of Therbe Village greatly, none more so than her son who found himself burdened with feelings of loss, anger, and the heavy duty of following in her footsteps.

Later, during the HIY 300 Teras Pharma conflict, Rochelle would claim Syggni was an ally of the Vermilion Axe, killed by Ionia in an attempt to confuse the hero. This ploy did not work and Syggni's reputation remained intact. In the end, her son would emerge as a worthy successor, with many seeing much of her in him as he grew.

Every year Tserendrum would return to the Martylion Wastes to visit the stone marker laid in Syggni's memory.
