Crafted magic crystal used by shamans

Malicite (呪石, Jiyuishi) is a type of magic stone seen in Genso Suikoden Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki. It is needed for shamans to cast spells.

Information

You? You call yourself a malicite crafter, acting in such a frivolous manner?

—  Chikura

Malicite is created by crafters and is indispensable for shamanism. Different types of malicite had different effects, each with their own uses.

Malicite is created by forming a crystal using component ingredients to imbibe it with magical power and fitting it to a practical container or core. If not maintained properly, the crystal will deteriorate, resulting in a faded, fragile, and magically weak piece of malicite.

Malicite production generally focused on effects designed to curse and hamper their targets, making it a source of very harsh, punishing spells.

Compared to the similarly produced magicite, malicite was much rarer in the Holy Empire of Ionia. Originally a technique of the Yuga, malicite crafting proved a difficult art to pass down. In centuries past, the Mountain Roots sponsored efforts to adopt malicite production but with few positive results.

The Yuga Chikura attempted to pass on his malicite techniques in HIY 200, unwilling to let the art die out. He had some success with the featherfolk Irin, beginning a small tradition of featherfolk malicite crafting that continued on to Gugleion chief Guwaini in HIY 300.

Utze would learn to crafter malicite from prohibited documents found in West Mt. Hioni. He and Guwaini would function as the Company's malicite crafters. Other Starbearer magicite crafters included the Yuga Chikura and Nikumba as well as the Ionian Domitia who learned from Narishuya, a shaman.
