Fort Retto was a hilltop fortress located in a forest near the Muse-Highland border. It was an old, wooden building and had been used as the base from which the [[Highland Army]] began the Jowston-Highland war.

Though the victory propelled Kiba to fame, he had bitter memories of the battle. He had lost most of his men in the defense, a necessity to make the Jowston army believe there was a larger contingent at the fort. As such, he refused all military honors offered for the battle.

Since then, the fortress declined in use and by SY 455 was abandoned and dilapidated, exposed to the elements.
