The Star Dragon Sword is an incarnation of the Night Rune that resided in the Cave of the Past at Qlon Temple. It had a face carved into its hilt which allowed it to talk and held a will and personality all of its own. It is one of the few weapons that can kill supposedly immortal demons, such as vampires. The sword was very prideful and prone to nagging and it was also large, making it difficult to handle by an ordinary warrior.

When Viktor and the leader of the Toran Liberation Army travelled to the Cave of the Past on Fukien's advice, they came upon the sealed Star Dragon Sword. After first throwing the group into the distant past upon awakening, when the sword learned that Viktor aimed to kill Neclord, the Star Dragon Sword decided to join them. Wielding the Star Dragon Sword, Viktor was able to defeat and ostensibly destroy Neclord, as the Star Dragon Sword was an incarnation of the Night Rune and Neclord was merely a servant of the darkness.

For the rest of the Gate Rune War, the Star Dragon Sword remained with Viktor. Following the end of the war, the Star Dragon Sword was presumed missing, alongside Viktor.

Following the Gate Rune War, Viktor had brought the sword to Jowston before abandoning it in the Cave of the Wind, finally tiring of its bickering.

Once Neclord reappeared, however, Viktor reluctantly returned to the Cave of the Wind with Kahn Marley and the leader of the New State Army to retrieve it. Enraged at having been abandoned, the Star Dragon Sword attacked the group but was subdued and agreed to be used again after Viktor groveled for it. Later, helped slaying Neclord once and for all together with Sierra Mikain. It also inspired the blacksmith Tessai to join the New State Army.

Following the Dunan Unification War, Viktor continued to travel with the sword for a time.

Trivia
* The Star Dragon Sword's name would be more properly translated as the Constellation Sword. The Star Dragon Sword gained its name through Konami's translation of Suikoden, when they translated the kanji making up the name of the Star Dragon Sword/Constellation Sword individually - thus 星辰剣 became Star (星) Dragon (辰) and Sword(剣), rather than Star Sword. The name Zodiac Sword is popular in the fan community, and was used in the fan translations of Suikogaiden Vol.1 and Vol.2.
* In the original , the Star Dragon Sword's name changes when upgraded at a blacksmith from Star Dragon Sword to Black Dragon Sword and King Dragon Sword. It is also the weapon which gives the highes attack boost when upgraded to Level 16 (185). In Suikoden II and Suikoden III, the weapon name does not change when upgraded.
* While the weapon has its own weapon class in the first two Suikoden titles and thus upgrades like no other weapon, its weapon growth in Suikoden III is the same as hammers and halberds.
Biography
Han Cunningham was known as a hero who fought on the front lines for the Highland Kingdom. During the war between Highland the City-State of Jowston, he was a close friend and personal rival of Genkaku, who fought for the City-State forces. Around this time, the two friends would come across the split Rune of Beginning and Han would inherit the Black Sword Rune. Respecting each other's abilities, their war would end through Darell's conspiracy and Genkaku would fade away while Han was lauded as a Highland hero.

As he grew older, Han was appointed Commander of the 2nd Highland Army and assigned to the defence of Highland's Imperial Capital, L'Renouille. As such, he did not see action in the Dunan Unification War until its last battle, when the city was besieged by a numerically superior New State Army. After L'Renouille was breached, Han would make one final stand in L'Renouille Palace, duelling the New State Army's leader, Genkaku's adopted son.

Defeated, Han would reminisce one last time about his days with Genkaku before passing away serenely.
Their attacks were determined by slots, making them unpredictable, and they could use both attack and recovery magic. Rare antiques could occasionally be found inside their chests after their defeat.
Oannes is a 3rd century BCE Babylonian mythical being who taught mankind wisdom. He was said to have the body of a fish but underneath the figure of a man.
Information
While breaking out of prison in Kyaro Town, Nanami was confronted by two Highland guards. Desperate to rescue her brother and Jowy, she prepared to use this technique. The name alone was enough to scare away her adversaries, meaning that the technique was never seen.

Nanami claimed that the attack was taught to her by Genkaku but the truth of this cannot be verified. Jowy, at least, seemed perplexed by it and Nanami reacted with embarrassment when questioned on it.

During the Dunan Unification War, Chaco encountered the young New State Army leader Hero (Suikoden II) and stole the young man's wallet. Chaco repeatedly taunted Riou before eventually being ordered by his grandmother, Susu, to lead the young man to her.

Chaco's mind gradually changed about the young leader as he saw Riou attempt to foil the Highland Army plot, which took advantage of the racial tensions present in Two River. Vowing to fight against Highland to protect his home town, Chaco helped inspire all races of Two River to fight together and successfully repelled the Highland invasion.

Chaco decided to join the New State Army soon after, impressed with the comraderie of the New State Army.

During the Dunan Unification War, Chaco proved useful when he rescued Teresa Wisemail and Riou from a trap in Muse City. Chaco did not forget his friends in Two River, however, and wrote letters to people in Two River.

After the war, Chaco returned to Two River, where he continued to stir up trouble with his friends.

Trivia
* During the Dunan Unification War, Chaco is dumped by an unseen and, other than in one investigation by Richmond, unmentioned girlfriend, but it doesn't get him down.
It is the home of the Seer of the Scarlet Moon Empire and, later, the Toran Republic.

Information
Magician's Island is an isolated island and the former home of the Scarlet Moon Empire's former seer, Leknaat. Leknaat's home, a large tower, is the only building on the island. The tower is protected by Leknaat's magic; Leknaat had isolated herself on the island, wary of her sister, Windy. The magical barrier around Magician's Island meant that no one could reach the island without Leknaat's permission, such as messengers coming for her astrological readings, the Astral Conclusions.

Following the Gate Rune War, Leknaat departed from the island along with her apprentice, Luc. However, the place did not stay vacant for long; Hellion, the newly appointed Seer, moved in soon after Leknaat's disappearance and Window was hired to work on the windows there.

Leknaat stated that the Astral Conclusions were not fact but were merely the "flow" of events for the upcoming year that could be misinterpreted, mistaken or changed entirely by people. Despite this, the readings were considered of importance to the Empire. Genkaku was also instrumental in helping the Winged Horde move from Tinto Principality to Two River City.

During the war, Genkaku encounted his friend Han Cunningham, who came from the same village as Genkaku, as an enemy commander. The two did not let the war effect their friendship and would drink together in the middle of both camps; gradually, the two came to realize how stupid the war was. At some point, Genkaku came into the possession of the Bright Shield Rune while his friend Han received the Black Sword Rune.

The two drew up plans for a peace treaty that pleased nearly everyone, save the mayor of Muse City, Darell. Darell stubbornly refused to give the border town of Kyaro to the Highland Kingdom. With all sides tired of the war, Highland King Agares Blight came up with an idea for deciding a victor - the two nations would each send forth a champion in a duel. Darrell agreed to this, and the two heads of state chose Genkaku and Han as their champions.

During the duel, Genkaku refused to raise his sword to battle Han; as time passed, people became angry with Genkaku for refusing to fight. Eventually, Han knocked Genkaku's blade out of his hand and was declared the victor.

Genkaku was called a traitor and exiled by Darell. It was not until years later that the reason Genkaku refused to fight became known. Darell had coated Genkaku's sword with poison; even if he had won, Darrell would have exiled him anyway for murdering Han. At some point, he and Han sealed their runes in a cave in Toto Village.

After leaving the City-State of Jowston, Genkaku retired in the Highland Kingdom, where he opened a dojo and adopted two orphans, Hero (Suikoden II) and Nanami. Though not related by blood, the three happily bonded as a family. He eventually died of natural causes..

After his death, Anabelle] lamented that Muse could not atone for their sins against Genkaku. His adopted son, Riou, would one day come to possess the Bright Shield Rune and become the leader of the New State Army, a role he was chosen for due in part to his reputation as Genkaku's son.

Information
The Dagon is a giant mysterious fish with limbs. During the Gate Rune War, many were seen around Kalekka and the Secret Factory. As well as attacking with the spear in its hands, it can also poison a target with its tail. It does not have outstanding abilities and should be easily defeated if you take advantage of its weakness to fire and wind attribute attacks.

Etymology
Dagon was a major Semitic god, reportedly of fish and/or fishing, worshipped by the early Amorites and by the inhabitants of the cities of Ebla and Ugarit.

Oannes are not especially strong enemies although their comparatively high HP can lead to them lasting longer in battle than expected. These extra turns can begin to wear on a party's HP as they traverse the Toran Lake Castle if they are not adequately prepared.

Etymology
Oannes is a 3rd century BCE Babylonian mythical being who taught mankind wisdom. He was said to have the body of a fish but underneath the figure of a man. He is described as dwelling in the Persian Gulf, and rising out of the waters in the daytime and furnishing mankind instruction in writing, the arts and the various sciences.

The Japanese name derives from sakana. Sakana is a type of foodstuff, traditionally fish although meat and vegetables are not uncommon, that accompanies the drinking of alcohol in Japan.
